Clontarf

Set within the coastal landscape of Clontarf, this project is a considered transformation of an existing home, reimagining its outdoor spaces to create a more seamless connection between architecture, landscape and everyday living. The design centres around a refined new pergola and outdoor entertaining area, carefully integrated with the existing architecture. An opening roof introduces flexibility to the space, while integrated lighting, heating and concealed services allow it to function comfortably throughout the seasons. The proportions, cladding and detailing have been carefully resolved to ensure the new structure feels like a natural extension of the home rather than an addition. Privacy and screening play an equally important role. Custom hardwood screening, crafted by Interlock's carpenters, draws inspiration from the existing boundary fencing and neighbouring architecture. Carefully spaced square battens provide privacy while maintaining light, airflow and a visual connection to the surrounding landscape. Finished to complement the existing decking, the detailing creates continuity across the outdoor spaces. Around the pool and balcony, new glass balustrades and fencing provide a clean architectural edge without compromising the openness of the setting. Side fencing and gates are integrated with screening, balancing security and privacy with the home's refined coastal character. New windows and doors further strengthen the relationship between inside and out, with carefully considered proportions, finishes and openings bringing greater light and connection to the living spaces. As a Design + Construct project, each element is being considered as part of one cohesive vision. From the architectural proportions of the pergola through to the handcrafted timber screening and precise pool detailing, design and construction move together to ensure every decision contributes to the finished home. The result is a more connected, considered and enduring outdoor environment — designed around the way the home is lived in and shaped by its coastal setting.
